Changing Things Up A Bit + July 4th Events + Don't Be That Tourist

![]() That’s me, about 10 lbs lighter BTW 😜. Leaving the Philly hustle behind for Jackson has been the best decision I’ve ever made. | A Quick Note: Over the past month or so, the purpose of Teton Tattle has become a little unclear. My primary goal is to be your friendly source for everything Jackson, WY. Whether you’re a local, a frequent visitor, or planning your first trip, Teton Tattle is for you. I’ll be experimenting with some new ideas over the next two to three weeks—please send any feedback, good or bad! |

The week of July 4th has arrived in Jackson—and so have the “visitors.”
Yesterday, my son (sixteen years old and pure joy 🤬) and I left town after a quick stop at Liberty Burger (more on that below), heading toward GTNP at 4:30 p.m. The traffic coming back into town was certainly something. As a new local, it takes a minute to get used to this version of “traffic” after forty years on the East Coast.
Back to the 4th….There are a ton of events in town and up in Teton Village for good, old-fashioned family fun to celebrate our independence from England … yes, Gen Z readers, England was once our “daddy.”
Our calendar of events for July is now located at the bottom of the newsletter.
👀 Remember, if I did not include your event, it is not because I do not like you or because you advertise on JHNG. Just email me via [email protected] to let me know.

Teton Takes
1️⃣ Take #1: Jackson Hole History Museum
My wife and I, along with some of our neighbors, attended a “Beers & Banter” event this past week at the Jackson Hole History Museum. The topic was the history of health care in Jackson. I know that might not sound like a wild night, but let me share a few takeaways with you:
• It was packed. The entire outdoor deck of the museum was filled (within proper capacity, of course).
• Old-fashioned Jackson was on full display, with physicians and nurses who have spent over 40 years in the valley sharing stories and experiences. The audience was laughing and yearning for a time when health care felt more personal.
• The museum is incredible. I don’t care how young or old you are—stop in the next time you’re in town.
2️⃣ Take #2: Liberty Burger
Okay, the first thing you need to know about me is that I’m immediately suspicious of any business everyone claims is “the best.” So of course, I had to try Liberty Burger.
Joining me on this culinary excursion was the refined palate of a 16-year-old who eats two burgers a week.
🍔 Jason Jr. Burger Choice:
Wild West: Cheddar cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, pickles, onion, chipotle BBQ sauce.
This is a great burger! 8.5 out of 10. Cooked perfectly and tons of flavor
🍔 My Burger Choice:
The Liberty Burger: Comes with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles.
Overall, I was not blown away. Maybe it’s the lack of flavor options compared to “specialty” choices, but it was a basic, non-greasy burger.
👀 More burger ratings coming soon….

Moving to Jackson has been great, but learning the “language” has been more difficult than I expected:
🎣 Fly Fishing Conversation
Local:
“We were slayin’ ‘bows on the Snake till the PMD hatch popped off, then switched to a size 18 emerger on a 5x tippet.”
What I heard:
“Slayin’ what? Rainbows?
A PMD hatch? That sounds like a crypto scam.
A size 18 emerger? Is that a weapon?
And what the hell is a tippet? That’s a South Philly nickname for a guy who rats.”
🚴 Very Serious Bike Guy
Local:
“Gonna hit the pass on the gravel rig, maybe cut over to Shadow Mountain for sunset beers.”
What I heard:
“He’s riding some kind of bike up a mountain… then drinking at another mountain. Why? You could sit in the backyard like a normal person.”
🍃 Farmer’s Market Visit
Local:
“This is a single-origin yak butter infused with sage. Great on gluten-free elk muffins.”
What I heard:
“This guy is cooking with yak. That’s a Himalayan cow. And he’s putting it on muffins made from elk. This is not right.”

Don’t Be That Tourist: Survive July 4th in Yellowstone With These Tips
Headed to America’s first national park this 4th of July? So is half the country. Yellowstone’s about to be poppin’, but not with fireworks (more on that below). If you’re braving the geysers, bison, and bumper-to-bumper traffic, here’s how to enjoy your visit without becoming part of a cautionary tale.
🚫 Leave the Sparklers at Home
This is Yellowstone, not your uncle’s backyard BBQ. Fireworks are 100% illegal in the park, and that includes your “just one little Roman candle” logic. It’s wildfire season, let Old Faithful do the bursting.
⛺️ Campfire Rules: Soak, Stir, Feel, Repeat
Only use designated fire rings and never leave a fire unattended. Before heading out, douse it like you’re putting out a flaming ex, soak, stir, feel, repeat until it’s cold enough to touch. No sizzle, no smolder, no problem.
🔥 Fire Danger Is HIGH
Yellowstone’s current fire risk is cranked to HIGH. That means things can light up faster than a TikTok trend. If you see smoke, fire, or a careless cousin with a lighter, report it to a ranger or dial 911.
🐃 Wildlife is Wild, Not Cuddly
Yellowstone is not a petting zoo. Stay 25 yards from most wildlife and 100 yards from bears, wolves, and cougars (not the Jackson Hole 😜 kind). If that bison charges, you’re not “getting the shot”, you are the shot.
🛻 Park Like a Pro
Don’t be that person who stops in the middle of the road to film a squirrel. Use pullouts, follow speed limits, and park with all 4 wheels to the right of the white line. Yellowstone’s roads weren’t designed for your Instagram detour.
🧱 Stay on the Boardwalks
The ground in thermal areas? Think crème brûlée; it looks solid, but one wrong step and it’s gone. People have fallen into boiling springs. Stay on the boardwalks. They’re there for a reason (your limbs).
🌦️ Pack for All Four Seasons, Because You’ll Get Them
Bring layers. Rain gear. Snow boots. Sunscreen. Maybe a poncho. Maybe a parka. Possibly both in the same hour. Yellowstone weather doesn’t care about your summer vibes.
🚧 Road Work = Road Rage
Construction and sudden closures are part of the Yellowstone experience. Check conditions before you go:

Yellowstone is raw, wild, and ridiculously gorgeous. But it’s not Disney World. Plan smart, tread lightly, and don’t be the viral video for all the wrong reasons.
