Teton Tattle #15

Former President Visits Jackson, Wild Sage Review & Wolves in the 'hood

A quick reminder:

I’ll be experimenting with some new ideas over the next two to three weeks—please send any feedback, good or bad!

My primary goal is to be your friendly source for everything Jackson, WY.

Whether you’re a local, a frequent visitor, or planning your first trip, Teton Tattle is for you.

July 4th weekend was picture-perfect here in Jackson. The Chamber of Commerce deserves major kudos for organizing a fun, well-run parade that kept hundreds of kids engaged (no easy feat).

Sure, there was a bit of political grandstanding sprinkled in, but hey, that’s the era we’re living in.

Looking ahead, America turns 250 next July, and there’s no better place to celebrate than right here in Jackson.

Teton Takes

1️⃣ Take #1: Wild Sage is a dining experience!

Tucked inside the beautifully rebuilt Rusty Parrot Lodge, Wild Sage is an intimate, upscale dining experience that absolutely deserves a reservation in advance.

These images are after a bite or two….sorry, I am not a professional influencer.

📸 Pictured here: the Wild Halibut, Fall River Lamb, and Culotte de Boeuf (12 oz Lazy T Ranch steak)—three standout entrées that hit all the right notes.

The Wild Halibut is a delicate but flavor-packed plate, served with smoked trout caviar, English peas, crème fraîche, and a vibrant pea & parsley purée.
The Fall River Lamb features a tender rack of lamb paired with rich 48-hour belly, baby turnips, and a bright preserved lemon jus—finished with briny bursts from Taggiasca olives.
And the Culotte de Boeuf, a 12 oz Lazy T Ranch steak, comes perfectly grilled and accompanied by miso favas, grilled oyster mushrooms, and a punchy wild ramp verde.

If you’re more of a starter sampler, consider the Deviled Duck Egg or Chilled Spring Pea & Nettle Soup from the small plates side of the menu.

With seasonal ingredients, thoughtful technique, and a warm mountain lodge setting, Wild Sage continues to be one of Jackson’s most memorable culinary experiences.

2️⃣ Take #2: You may run into a former President in town

On our way to the parade, I walked directly into the Secret Service detail for President Clinton. Those guys and gals are always nice and professional. I grabbed a quick pic of the former prez before he stepped back into the Wort Hotel, where he appeared to be staying.

3️⃣ Take #3: Small Town Parades

As I mentioned earlier, small-town 4th of July parades are a must-do. We all need a reminder that more things unite us than divide us.

Continuing my “guy from Philly moves to Jackson” coverage this week.

🐺 Bear, wolves and elk…..in the neighborhood!

We rode ATV’s with Scenic Safaris up to Shadow Mountain for some incredible views of the Tetons…..and to potentially “interact” with some bears. The bear interaction was not planned, but we were told is was a possibility.

💡 Note: Readers with teenagers often ask for Jackson activities that don’t get the dreaded eye-roll. My 16-year-old came along with minimal pushback and actually enjoyed himself.

Back to our Shadow Mountain escapades… we didn’t see any bears. But we had two hours of fun, great views, and a little dirt on our clothes.

The beauty of living in Jackson?
You can wake up to a family of elk just outside your window as you sip your morning coffee.

The flip side?
This spring, my neighbor watched a wolf—yes, a wolf—take down an elk in his backyard. I tend to stand outside with my dogs now, but I’m not sure a wolf would be too concerned with me.

Definitely a different world than the East Coast!
